IN-HOME LACTACTION SUPPORT IN LOS ANGELES

Feeding your baby is something you learn together.

Experienced lactation care for the early days, changing weeks, and tender moments in between.

Breastfeeding is biological—but that does not mean it always feels instinctive or effortless. It has benefits for both of you and requires effort from both you and your baby. You are learning your baby. Your baby is learning you. Often times knowledgeable support at the right moment can change the entire experience.

Sharon Curtin-Bottomley, RN, IBCLC, LCCE • In-home + select virtual care

Clinical skill. Calm presence. Care shaped around you.

It is always easier to have an experienced guide by your side to figure this out with you.

As a Registered Nurse and International Board Certified Lactation Consultant, I provide practical, evidence-informed care while keeping something equally important at the center of our work: the relationship developing between you and your baby.

There is no single “right” way to feed a baby. My role is to help you understand what is happening, identify what may be getting in the way, and create a realistic plan that supports your baby’s growth, your milk production, and your own goals and wellbeing.

In-home support is available throughout the San Fernando Valley and surrounding Los Angeles communities. Virtual appointments are also available when appropriate.

BEGIN BEFORE BABY ARRIVES

Getting preparation for the early hours and days of feeding makes the first tired night more manageable.

Pregnancy gives us space to understand how breastfeeding works before you are recovering from birth and learning to care for a brand-new baby.

A prenatal lactation visit can be especially helpful for first-time parents, families who experienced feeding challenges before, or anyone who wants a more confident beginning.

The goal is not to know and memorize all things related to breastfeeding . It is to give you enough familiarity that when your baby is finally in your arms, things feel a little less daunting.

During a prenatal visit, we can explore:

☑️How milk production works in the first hours, days and weeks
☑️Normal newborn feeding patterns, cues, and signs of milk intake
☑️Positioning for a comfortable, effective latch
☑️Hands-on practice with breastfeeding positions
☑️What to expect during the first vital 24 hours-5 days
☑️Hand expression
☑️When pumping is—and is not—necessary
☑️How to use your breast pump
☑️Personalized flange sizing and fitting
☑️Ways partners can support feeding
☑️When supplementation may be helpful
☑️How to recognize when it is time for more help

LACTATION SUPPORT PACKAGES

Continuity for a relationship that keeps unfolding.

Feeding changes quickly. These packages give us room to begin, observe, adjust, and stay connected as you and your baby find your rhythm.

Pregnancy to Postpartum Lactation Care

Begin preparing during pregnancy—and have trusted support already in place when your baby arrives.

$675 ~ Four visits + ongoing support

By the time I arrive at your home after birth, I already know you, your feeding goals, your history, your pump, and many of the questions that mattered before your baby arrived.

Your package includes:

☑️1 prenatal lactation visit, ideally during the third trimester
☑️1 comprehensive in-home postpartum visit, often most helpful within the first several days after arriving home
☑️2 follow-up lactation visits, timed around your baby’s needs and your feeding goals
☑️Two weeks of messaging support after each visit
☑️12-month access to the Confidence In Birth Lactation Resource Hub
☑️15% savings on additional lactation visits and select Confidence In Birth services for 12 months

Flexible follow-up timing

Early support: approximately 5–7 days after the postpartum visit, then again around 2–3 weeks.

Early + later transition: once during the first 1–2 weeks, then around 4–6 weeks as developmental and behavioral shifts occur in your baby and your milk supply.

Individualized: save the visits and use them when questions or transitions arise.

Common times new parents reach out for help: supply and breast concerns, planning to add pumping and introduce bottle feeding, to prepare for return to work, adding solid foods at 6 months, weaning.

We will choose the timing together based on what you and your baby actually need.

Early Weeks Postpartum Lactation Care

For families who want more than a single postpartum visit.

$375 ~ Two visits + ongoing support

Sometimes one appointment gives us a strong beginning—but feeding changes quickly during the first several weeks. This package lets us make a plan, see how your baby responds, and adjust it together.

Your package includes:

☑️1 comprehensive in-home postpartum lactation visit
☑️1 prenatal or follow up visit, often within 5–14 days or when it best supports your family
☑️Two weeks of messaging support after each visit
☑️12-month access to the Confidence In Birth Lactation Resource Hub
☑️15% savings on additional lactation visits and select Confidence In Birth services for 12 months

A whole-picture assessment

Depending on your needs, we may explore latch and positioning, oral assessment for lip and tongue mobility and function, milk transfer, baby’s weight and feeding patterns, milk production, pumping and flange fit, bottle feeding, supplementation, breast or nipple concerns, combination feeding, exclusive pumping, or returning baby to the breast.

Together, we create a feeding plan that feels understandable and manageable—not a long list of things you “should” be doing.

And sometimes families reach out simply because they want reassurance that feeding is going well. That is a meaningful reason, too.

MORE THAN MILK

Your warmth. Your smell. Your voice. Your touch. The rhythm of your baby signaling a need and having someone respond.

Feeding happens inside a relationship.

Of course we care about milk intake, weight gain, and milk production. But whether milk comes directly from the breast, a bottle, through supplementation, or through a combination of approaches, feeding is also one of the earliest ways your baby experiences connection.

That is why my lactation work is never about achieving breastfeeding at any cost. It is about helping you feed your baby while protecting something equally important: your confidence, your wellbeing, and the relationship growing between you.

WHAT HAPPENS DURING AN IN-HOME VISIT?

Real support for real postpartum life.

There is no need to clean the house or have your baby ready to eat at exactly the right moment. I will meet you where you are.

  1. We listen ~ We begin with your birth, your baby’s feeding history, diaper output, weight patterns, milk production, and what feeding has actually felt like at home.
  2. We observe ~ We watch your baby together and explore latch, milk transfer, comfort, pumping, bottles, or other pieces that matter for your family.
  3. We make a plan ~ You leave understanding what we are seeing and with a realistic plan for your baby, your body, and your family. We discuss options based on your current circumstances, values and goals. And, it is ok if those change along the way. Babies change and feeding plans will change with them.

INSURANCE + PAYMENT

Your lactation care may be covered.

Confidence In Birth works with lactation insurance networks including The Lactation Network (TLN) and Wildflower for eligible plans.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

A little clarity before we begin.

When should my first postpartum visit be?

For many families, days 3–5 after birth can be an especially valuable time for lactation support. Earlier or later may be appropriate depending on your baby’s weight and feeding, your milk production, your birth experience, and your discharge plan. If you are concerned, reach out and we can decide together when it makes sense to meet.

When should I schedule a prenatal visit?

I generally recommend the third trimester so the information is still relatively fresh when your baby arrives.

Do I need to be exclusively breastfeeding?

Absolutely not. Families come to me while breastfeeding, pumping, bottle feeding, supplementing with formula or donor milk, combination feeding, or deciding what approach will work best. My role is to help you make informed decisions—not to judge them.

What if feeding is not going the way I hoped?

Then we begin with where you are today. Sometimes goals change. Sometimes babies or bodies need additional help. We can protect breastfeeding when that is your goal while also protecting your baby’s growth, your physical and emotional health, and your relationship with your baby.

What is included in the Lactation Resource Hub?

Your private online library includes trusted videos and parent-friendly resources about the first days, latch and positioning, signs that baby is getting enough, milk supply, pumping and flange fit, bottle feeding, common challenges, developmental feeding changes, and returning to work. A good place to start for trustworthy information on common topics of interest.
